05-04-15 - INTERLUDE

=Doran=

In the morning the adventurers gather at the inn as planned for a morning meal. Somewhat unsurprisingly, Doran does not make an appearance. Everyone assumes that, in true dwarven fashion, he likely over-indulged in the bottomless ales and is sleeping like a moss-covered stone now.

After the meal, everyone agrees to pay final respects to the priestess before exploring what the town has to offer.

The party walks into the temple just in time to see the priestess give Doran what appears to be a blessing of some sort, after which Doran turns to leave. He is a bit startled to see everyone, but urgently bee-lines past without making eye contact.

“Don’t know when I’ll be back, lads, but…there’s something I need to take care of…alone.”

In the late evening, Doran does return to the village. His appearance is startling, however, not because of the length of his absence, but because his flesh has grown radically darker and is covered in an abnormal amount of course, black hair.

=Seeker=

“Hmm. Full body beard…becomes you,” Seeker says with a straight face. “Anything we should know about the timing of winter this year?”

=Leo=

Leo is, surprisingly enough given the events of the night before, up fairly early. He shows up in the common room quietly, aware a bit too late that wandering off with a local lady is unlikely to have made him friends in a small town.

“Dear sir, could I have something to break my fast?”

Taking, and overpaying for, his somewhat grudgingly given meal back to a table he pours over his new book it’s pages covered in tightly written script. An attentive observer would note that he never turns a page, but rather with tap of his finger the text simply changes. There are drawings too, but less said of them the better. A serving girl, drawn like a moth to a flame, sees one when she brings an unneeded teapot and quickly leaves the scene.

“Yes, yes. I see. I SEE. Let us do that then! That will put things to rights.”

Grabbing the bread he suddenly returns to his room. The tea cools. The smell of smoke comes from his room, it can be seen leaving the open window. No villagers are compelled to investigate.

When asked to go to the temple, they would find him still engrossed in his book in a room that despite the open window is thick with smoke. An owl sits unblinking on the headboard quietly watching the visitor(s).

“Oh, yes. Of course I’ll come. Little William, set that brazier outside. You’re very little use you know. Billy, we are going to the chapel. If you embarrass me in front of the lady I will send you back to hell. Meet me downstairs.”

This is directed at the bird, a pale faced barn owl, which blinks once and flies off through the open window. Meanwhile, the brazier, lifted by invisible hands, floats past you through the door and down the hall.

“This book is simply a god send. Well…not literally you understand. But it is going to make things so much easier.”

Leo stares at Doran for a moment. Blinks. Then his eyes stray across to Seeker from the tail up to the horns.

“I’ve never been the inconspicuous one before. You two, dear Roan’s …. speaking troubles. It’s good that Billy has been sorted when he has or we’d never get a room in a respectable inn again.

No offense intended of course, but you know how these little towns are. It might be best if I do the talking." He’d add in a private tone.

“We should seriously consider wrapping up our business here and moving on before their fear of us subsides. I don’t see us having a long welcome. If we stick together (he looks at them speculatively)… Which seems prudent for now anyway we can likely hold trouble in town at arms lengths until we can find someplace more accepting.”

“My dear cleric and Mister Corey- what of your intentions? Turning the keep into a summer home would be great deal of work I think.”

In an aside to the owl, “Billy you worthless bird, take this to Marda and see you are civil. There’s worse things than stewed owl.” He would place a small tube of parchment in the Owls proffered talon and watch as it flew off with it.

=Roan=

Well, my RP story is pretty simple. Up until now, Roan has been looking for revenge against three individuals in particular. His goal was to gain experience enough to prepare himself for the day when he faces them. But the warm reception from the people of (Wherever We Are) combined with the blessing of Tyr, has compelled him to seek a less indulgent path. He will be a hunter, a defender of the weak against the wild, lawless creatures beyond civilization’s walls. Of course, revenge is still on the table, but Roan can see that justice for others is as valuable as his own justice… or whatever. Still want to meet up with his nemesis at some point though.

This was arrived at during a solitary moment, but he would probably say something about it to the others at some point. Or perhaps they over hear him telling the priestess this stuff and requesting a blessing…

On the Secret Path

It had been a fast and furious battle. The acrid smell of orc blood hung in the air as the party searched the bodies. The six orc soldiers each carried a handful of coins (5 gp) along with their hide armor, greataxes, and flasks of oil. Roan judged the seventh orc to be some sort of lieutenant. He wore scale mail of decent quality, not typical for your average orc. But what the lieutenant carried was even more important. Leoric found a sack tied to the orc’s belt containing a pearl (100 gp), a large iron key, and the Crucible of Freya.

When Lauriel saw the Leoric take out the silver bowl, she smiled broadly and stifled a cheer, “Well done, friends! These foul creatures never knew what hit them.” The elf held out her hand, gesturing for Leoric to hand her the bowl. “We should return the Crucible to Shandril at once.”

02-18-15 - INTERLUDE: pre-game stuff
In the Beginning

To help you guys nail down your backgrounds a little bit, I thought I’d give you some information on where the group will start when we play in March.

We’re gonna go a little D&D cliche and start the game in a tavern called the Thirsty Stirge, in a town called Reme. Reme isn’t a terribly large town, but it’s the economic hub of the area, which is mostly woods and farmland. The main sources of income for the locals are farming and logging. Trappers and hunters also do a lot of trade here. The community is almost entirely human, and the nonhuman characters in the party get some stares from the locals. The townsfolk seem particularly nervous around the Tiefling, but nobody has been outwardly hostile… yet.

Anyway, start thinking of a reason to be here. You could simply be looking for a place to lay low, and Reme is on the outskirts of some pretty remote territory. You could be selling furs or meat if you are a skilled hunter/trapper. You could be looking for work (farming, entertaining, logging, or even adventuring).

I’m keeping the location of Reme in the Forgotten Realms intentionally vague, because the Princes of the Apocalypse will probably have you start somewhere specific and I don’t want you guys on the wrong side of the continent when we actually start that adventure.

I’m assuming that none of the characters know each other yet, but we can change that if you’d like.

Let me know if you have any questions. If it would be helpful to have more details about the town or its occupants, I’m happy to provide that. Just tell me what you want to know.

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.
